2007 Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Zinfandel

A serious Zinfandel from the start, it pours a deep purple-red with lots of white pepper on the nose, fused with savory blackberry, sage, and that indescribable old vine concentration. One of the oldest and smallest American winemaking regions, Dry Creek Valley is well-known for the peppery nuance and concentration of its wines. In this prime example of Dry Creek Zinfandel, intense fruit and bramble flavors open up with a rush, and smoothly transition to blueberry and sweet cranberry on the mid-palate. Offering a full range of berries, from light strawberry to darker blueberry and blackberry, this wine continues to impress with each additional taste. Vibrant and full-bodied, a touch of caramel lingers on the long finish. Coming from vines that yield only a single ton of grapes per acre (compared to an average 4 to 6 tons for premium vineyards), it is no surprise that this wine has grip and presence that rivals any other Zinfandel.

Gnocchi with a sage brown butter sauce leaps to mind as a ready pairing—the sweet and savory sauce would both compare and contrast nicely with this Zinfandel. For a summer treat, grill up some Hawaiian burgers with pineapple and honey smoked barbeque sauce for a fun way to create that sweet and savory wine pairing. Lastly, the simple combination of our Flock Zinfandel and a barbeque chicken pizza is irresistible.
