Big Smooth wines are sourced from premier vineyards in Lodi, California, nestled between the Sierra Foothills and the San Francisco Bay area, where rich, bold wines are known to thrive. Our approach to winemaking is to make a big, fruit-forward wine that finishes smooth and satisfying. Crafting Big Smooth wines involves walking a tightrope between developing a full-bodied wine with a satin finish. We allow our grapes to achieve high sugar levels so the tannins in the skin soften. We age our wines in a combination of American, French, and Hungarian oak that adds complexity and lends seductive vanilla and coconut notes. This fine balance between fruit and aging is how we truly achieve wines worthy of bottling for Big Smooth.
Recognized by Wine Enthusiast in 2015 as Wine Region of the Year, Lodi boasts a Mediterranean climate of warm days and cool evening breezes from the Delta. This unique climate coupled with deep, loamy soil makes the Lodi wine region renowned for rich, concentrated wine and allows us to focus on only the most bold and structured fruit. The majority of the fruit for Big Smooth is grown in a small vineyard, by a family who has been cultivating Lodi grapevines for five generations. This long-standing history of excellence is something we appreciate and support.
